Dr. Dezfulian earned his Ph.D. from faculty of medicine, University of Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the field of Microbiology and Immunology. His major interest is in molecular diagnostic tests (for bacteria as well as viruses).
He joined IEH-EEL in January 2007. Dr. Dezfulian built the microbiology lab at IEH-EEL with different areas such as PCR detection unit, Water and Waste Water Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Microbiology of the Biosolids, Environmental Microbiology, and Virology.
He is also a quality manager and helped the laboratory acquire its Shellfish sanitation certification from ELAP as well as ISO 17025 accreditation from A2LA. He is working as managing director and microbiology lab director.
Xzayla Zabiti earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Cell & Molecular Biology from San Diego State University (SDSU) in 2005. She joined IEH-EEL in February of 2007 as a microbiologist. She is Deputy Director and QA/QC Officer of the laboratory. She is actively involved in the development of new molecular detection methods. Xzayla’s contributions to the development and running of the microbiology lab are extraordinary.
Belisario Dimuzio graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology in 2009. Later that year, he joined IEH-EEL as an analytical microbiologist.
Christina graduated from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She began working at EEL in May of 2010 as a laboratory technician. She enjoys the challenge of working in a laboratory setting and being part of the great team at EEL.
